Early History
United States Navy. TBM-3S. Construction number 3569.
Royal Canadian Navy. Avenger AS 3. Flew as #368 for Squadron VU 32. BOC: 27 Oct 1950. SOC: 17 Jan 1958.
Skyway Air Services, Langley, BC
#603 CF-IML 1958-1961
Note: Not to be confused with Conair TBM #603, which was CF-AGL.
Aerial Spray Program – NB, BC
1958 – Converted to tanker, Victoria, BC, 1958. Part of a fleet of 6 Wheeler and 6 Skyway TBMs. 1959 – No operations.
1960 – No records, but very likely flew in NB. Erroneously reported in the literature (including this site) as having crashed near Harrison Lake, British Columbia, in 1961, after hitting golf course power lines; this actually refers to CF-MXS. The official Department of Transport accident card (below) states that FIML crashed near Salmon Creek (near Chipman), 4 miles northwest of Minto, NB, on 13 June 1960. Pilot Richard Owen was killed.
Many websites, including yours, indicate that CF-MSX also crashed at Harrison Lake on July 7, 1961. Was there indeed two accidents at Harrison Lake on the same day?
Thanks, Bernie. Your comment pushed me to obtain the official Dept. of Transport accident cards for all TBM and Stearman crashes. FIML did not crash at Harrison Lake, BC, in 1961; that was CF-MSX. The above text has been corrected, and soon I will be adding a post to summarize other mistakes.
